SM81 review
Earlier this February I had a chance to record an incredible group of high school musicians at the Rockyview School Division honour band recital. This recording went much better than previous recordings of high school bands for me. I would attribute that to the use of proper microphones and cabling.
For this recording I used two SM81 microphones. They sounded superb! I could not have been more happier with the result. The microphones were set up equidistant from the conductor's podium and were panned far left and right in my software. This made for a very interesting sounding recording that placed you in the gym with the band.
I also mentioned the use of proper cabling. Always make sure you have cables made by reputable people and make sure they are not made from inferior materials. This will ensure any project you work on will happen without any glitches or equipment malfunctions. Good cables also ensure a clean sounding recording, as well they are more likely to be reliable if they are in a location where they can be stepped on.
Thanks Nero Productions for the equipment rental!
