The Blog

April 15, 2011

I have almost got the next web site done. Its for my friend Dan Dolinski and his company DanD Nitrogen. Dan sells and delivers liquid nitrogen with his company and is always looking for more clients. I am using this project to learn more php scripting and how to make a easy to update dynamic web site for my clients. The email form worked out pretty good.

Also, got some ads in the papers for my electrical company. I've got my shingle out now, just need some people to call and get some jobs done. I can do residential, commercial and industrial electrical. The eventual goal is to do professional audio system installations but this is just the stepping stone to get there.

This week has also sent me into learning lots about Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Google has some excellent resources about SEO. There are a lot of factors considered in placing a web page in search results, but I like Google's recommendations. Make sure your visitor's needs are met first; make the content accessible, easy to read and relevant or interesting. If those things do not happen then its likely that a search engine will never rank your page very high in their results.

Hopefully the snow melts soon! I cannot wait for spring/summer to get here!

Its time for the blog to get going again. I've got lots of thoughts and I'm needing a place to vent them to. So here we go!

Canadians are into election season again and I am disappointed by all the parties. I need to do some more research I suppose, but none of the politcal groups involved have any plans worth supporting. Everyone dances around the important issues and will not take a stand, they all compromise until all the parties look the same. After the last round of "conservatism" I don't think any party is going to get our country on track finacially either. One thing is becoming extremely important for me, in my personal finances and otherwise; pay down our debt and move on with life!

I'm into a new season of life as well. I have embarked on my small business, and it has been a slow start. If anyone needs an electrician, a web site, a recording, or a live event with sound please contact me! I'm ready and available.

With the new business I am contemplating offering live sound or recording training or seminars. Lots of people are willing to volunteer for a variety of events and bands but they need some knowledge to get things rolling. I imagine you will see a section of the site started up for articles and tutorials later this week or next week.

New vehicles disappoint me. I may not be the most green person out there, but I have to say this. Fuel economy is very important to me. Emissions is not. Right now the marketing of vehicles in Canada tries to equate these two concepts and they are completely different. Actually I am finding that for every drop in emmissions your car will use more fuel. Thats right! Want a clean car, it generally will use more gas. I am not sure why this is but my 1989 truck used to get 25-28MPG or about 10L/100km. My current vehicle (a 2005 Dodge RAM with a smaller motor and a lighter body) is very lucky to get 18-20MPG or about 13L/100km.

On the vehicle fuel economy subject, I have found a way to save fuel. Drive slower. Its so simple its ludicrous. Yesterday I drove everywhere at 85km/h or 90km/h and was getting my truck up to 20MPG or 11.5L/100km. Yes I may have been a road hazard but I can get an extra 150km out of a tank of fuel.

Well, du5tin.com has now become my personal web site. The recording studio now has its own dedicated site and you can find that at http://www.sympulstudio.com. Here you will find other things I am up to and maybe some updates on my family.
